Character Background

• History: http://warriors.wikia.com/wiki/Bluestar
• Core Relationships:
(using their warrior or leader names throughout, just to make things easier on anyone who isn't canon-familiar. warriors change their names many times during their lives. bluestar was named bluekit at birth, then bluepaw during her apprentice training, then bluefur as a warrior and finally bluestar when she became leader. we'll just call her bluestar during all of this.)

- Family: Bluestar, along with her sister Snowfur, were born to an overprotective mother (Moonflower) and a nearly absent father (Stormtail). Moonflower died when they were six months old, leaving Bluestar to care for Snowfur for most of their lives. Sibling rivalry ran deep, but they fought and hunted as a team and never spent more than a few hours apart. Snowfur was hit by a car shortly after having her first kitten, and Bluestar never fully recovered from the hole left in her life. Years later, Snowfur is still the first cat Bluestar looks for when speaking with her warrior ancestors, and the first cat on her mind when she makes tough decisions.

- Mentors: Bluestar started training under Stonepelt, but the same battle that killed Moonflower also permanently injured him. Sunstar took over her training when Stonepelt retired. At first this was an uphill battle, handling Bluestar's bitter attitude and the fog of grief interrupting every aspect of her life. But not only did he succeed in training her, he imprinted a love for teaching that stuck with Bluestar for the rest of her life.

- Romance: Bluestar was friends with Oakheart's brother, Crookedjaw, before meeting him. Oakheart and Crookedjaw belong to a rival Clan, and the warrior code forbids friendships or romances forming across Clan borders, but Bluestar couldn't help falling for the burly and easy-going tomcat. Oakheart made her feel young all over again, in a way she hadn't felt in years, although they only spent one night together before agreeing to stay on their own sides of the border. Unfortunately, that was enough for Bluestar to become pregnant, and she was not prepared for motherhood. She ended up panicking and bringing her kittens to Oakheart for him to raise once they were born, although one of them did not survive the journey.

Thrushpelt admired Bluestar for a long time, even before he developed feelings for her. Eventually everyone in the Clan assumed they were together, as they always saw Thrushpelt tripping over himself to please her, but Bluestar barely noticed and was far too preoccupied with Oakheart. Thrushpelt volunteered to pretend he was the father of Bluestar's kittens, to avoid the stigma of her having kittens with a cat from another Clan. Thrushpelt remained a close friend of Bluestar's, until his passing long after she became leader.

- Thistleclaw: Bluestar and Thistleclaw were bitter rivals from the moment Thistleclaw was born. It started with petty squabbles - jealousy when Snowfur fell in love with Thistleclaw, frustration at his arrogance and aggressive attitude, pranks from Thistleclaw to undermine Bluestar's authority during a hunting patrol - but eventually Bluestar became convinced that Thistleclaw was a danger to the cats around him, as did many other cats in their Clan. If he had managed to become leader, he would have gotten everyone in ThunderClan killed in pointless battles. Bluestar gave up her kittens to rush her career forward and become leader before he could. To some extent she blames him for that.

Thistleclaw also trained Bluestar's current strongest warrior, Tigerclaw - Bluestar trusts Tigerclaw with her life, but she knows that Thistleclaw's method of teaching was strict and demanding in a way that permanently warped Tigerclaw's view of the world. She has to keep a close eye on him to make sure he does not fully become his mentor.

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences:
- Diplomatic: Bluestar has been set on becoming a clan leader for her entire life, and trained hard not just in combat but in diplomacy and management. The best examples are when she attends Clan gatherings, where multiple Clans meet to discuss matters that affect the whole forest. Bluestar knows how to massage information to avoid showing weakness to other Clans, and she knows how to interrupt arguments before they turn into fights. Within her own Clan she’s looked up to as a figure of unquestioned authority, and others depend on her to settle disputes and keep day-to-day life running smoothly. They also expect her to make tough decisions, such as who should eat during times of famine and how to best interpret the laws of their land.

- Mentoring: Bluestar is shown to be playful even as a leader - she plays gentle pranks on her apprentices, such as encouraging them to stick their heads into an owl pellet to teach them about owls. She’s known to be a patient, kind and humorous teacher who is always willing to meet her students where they’re at, not where she wants them to be. Even with her senior warriors, she knows just what to say to keep them in check without wounding their egos.

- Loyal: Bluestar treats her entire Clan with the same fierce, protective love of a mother with her kittens. When cat blood is shed, no matter their affiliation, Bluestar takes on that pain as if it were her own. She has lost her life for her Clan before, and she will do so again and again without a moment’s hesitation. Later on, past her current canon point, she will even give her last life to protect the cat she all but raised since he was six months old.

(2+) Negative Experiences:
- Martyr: Bluestar is self-sacrificing to a fault - to the point where she feels that if she gets too comfortable with something that is hers and doesn’t benefit those around her, StarClan will find a way to take it away. She believes that all of the loss she has experienced - losing her sister, her daughter, her lover and many of her Clanmates - has been orchestrated by the stars to mold her into a leader. She believes she will continue to suffer each time she thinks of herself.

- Slow to Trust: This is most pressing with humans - Bluestar has never met one before, and her knowledge is very limited. Rumors abound in the forest about how humans will trap cats in their houses, turn them lazy and feed them hard pellets. She views them as cruel, mindless monsters that keep cats for their own amusement. Even among cats, she is fiercely loyal to her own family group and keeps an icy wall of diplomacy between her and others - she doesn’t want any unnecessary bloodshed, but she can’t allow any weakness to show either.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers: Bluestar was granted nine lives by her warrior ancestors; she has three remaining, although this won’t affect anything in-game. She is more dexterous than an earth cat - she can weave baskets and draw in the sand with her paw, for example - and has been rigorously trained in combat since the age of six months. She is also proficient in hunting, including birds, squirrels and fish.
• Blood Type: Paleblood
• Omen: A song thrush.
• Blessed Day: January 23rd - picking a random day, but I’m going to say this is the anniversary of her daughter Mosskit’s death.
• Patron Pthumerian: Madam Generosity. While the idea of a patron might take Bluestar a bit of time to get used to, she’ll come to admire Madam Generosity’s compassion and calm demeanor.
• Blood Power Manifestation: Bluestar has gained the ability to walk through dreams, so long as she is touching the other character in her sleep and matching her breathing to theirs. She will also receive occasional prophetic visions. Both of these are known abilities in her universe, so they’ll take less getting used to than any other powers would.
